La Thiérache,

we get attached to it!

La Thiérache, the true Pays du Maroilles, is located to the east of Saint-Quentinois. You can enter it through the town of Guise, now famous for its Familistère built by Godin (you know the stoves…) and the Château des Ducs de Guise, which you must have heard of. Ideal territory for cycling, you can take the EuroVelo3 also called Scandibérique to Hirson and the Blangy waterfall then discover the fortified churches. Built or fortified in the 16th century, their orange colored bricks contrast with the green of Thiérache. Its bocage landscape is dotted with hedges and orchards that you can enjoy walking all the way to Parfondeval, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. If you like the forest, head for the Abbey of Saint-Michel. Nature serves as the setting for this jewel on the border with Belgium. But make no mistake, here we drink cider. Accompanied by a slice of Maroilles tart, you will be won over!
